I believe that if you know what makes people tick, you can determine what makes them click. Though I stand by this view and find it very helpful in the context of work, underneath it all, I have a genuine interest not just knowing people but also understanding them.
Once we meet and I find out a few details about you, I can say that I know you, but it is only through hearing your story, your journey, that I that I can really understand and connect beyond a surface level.
That deeper connection is the foundation upon which great relationships develop (friend to friend, supervisor to colleague, consumer to business leader, etc.).
Whether it is in relation to work or a broader slice of life, focus on more than the now. Get to know AND understand those around you. Lastly, don’t be shy the next time someone asks: “What’s Your Story?”
