• #31bnb Day 2 – Blog Purpose Statement

Posted on August 2, 2010 by in Just Fun, Thoughts

Racing against the clock for the day 2 assignment.

So this will be a quick one, but today’s assignment requires us to write a purpose statement for our blog – one that answers the following:

The assignment today is to write a purpose statement for your blog(s). Your purpose statement should answer the following:

    1. Why do you blog?
    2. What do you blog about? (be as specific as you can here, especially if you have a niche)
    3. What do you want to become known for through your blog (what kind of reputation are you seeking to create for yourself)?

Not sure why but the first post immediately made me think about Kirk Franklin’s “Why We Sing“. May be because  of how it starts: Someone asked a question, why do we blog….

Ok maybe they didn’t say blog, but it fits so well! Those who have read my Music and PR posts know that I am a fan of music, the industry and parodies…and I won’t hesitate to bring them all together.

Anyways, down to the business of this purpose statement.

    Why do I blog?

I blog to move the conversation forward.

I first started blogging in 2006 (and got back into blogging in early 2008) so that I could share my perspective on things that I read. To a certain extent that’s still true, but in the beginning, it was about the great campaigns out there. Over time, however, my blogging became more personal.

I grew as a person and as a professional. I changed jobs and focus. I began to share more of James in the posts. In came social media. In came the Music and PR series. In came the posts on diversity in the industry.

I’m still open to the campaign reviews (and don’t think I didn’t consider throwing my twenty-six cents in on Old Spice), but they are not as important to me as some of the other pieces.

In many ways, I blog so that I can get my perspective out there and hopefully generate some thought. I blog to let others know they are not the only ones out there thinking and feeling they way the do about some of these industry issues. I blog with the goal of moving the conversation forward.

    What do you blog about?

    Let’s see:

    • PR
    • PR and Music
    • PR and Social Media
    • PR and Diversity in the Industry.

    Pure. N. Simple.

What do you want to become known for through your blog (what kind of reputation are you seeking to create for yourself)?

I want to be known as a passionate, strategic, committed public relations practitioner who values innovation, creativity, results and diversity.
