The lack of diversity in PR and Social Media is something that I’ve wondered about since I began working full-time in a PR agency setting, but my curiosity about the root causes of this problem only became more amplified with time. The tipping point for me was the July 2009 meeting of DC Media Makers with guest speaker Allyson Kapin, founder of Women Who Tech. It led to this post  and then this video interview where I discuss some of my thoughts on the issue (about 6mins in).

This process is a little intimidating, as I am treading in some personally uncharted waters, but it is also VERY exciting because of the feedback and responses that I’ve received. I now know that I’m not alone in how I think about this issue.

I’ve got a lot of thinking to do in terms of next steps and will be providing updates as time goes on. Don’t take my silence on the issue as neglect. Instead, I’ll be planning in the background. 1. Interesting. I’m curious to know your findings about causes. I have some thoughts of why it’s the case.
