How’s that for a press release headline?
I ask everyone reading to take it easy on me. It’s 3:00 AM and I decided there was no way that I was going to sleep without writing the first post introducing my newest PR-related endeavor.
For those of you who I know from my Influence PR days, thanks for checking out the new blog! For those of you who don’t me, let me introduce myself.
My name is James Walker. I’m a twenty-something Gen Y* Communications professional with an interest in Branding, Marketing, Public Relations and everything involving social media.
After four great years at the George Washington University, I decided to stick around and give it a go at a small health care communications firm in Washington, DC. I spend my days reading up on the latest health trends and providing communications solutions to some of the top pharmaceutical companies and non-profit organizations, hence the health references (Rx, Prescriptions, Pandemic).
Now, back to my headline and the purpose of PR Prescriptions.
Do I think that there is a real communications “pandemic“? Not exactly…but we must admit that all is not well with the industry. I’ve spent enough time working in the business to know that people devise remarkable PR campaigns and make communication blunders every day. I won’t be able to cure the industry of its ills all on my own, but by evaluating the current landscape, I think we will be able to generate awareness of the problems plaguing the industry and lower the number of blunders one organization at a time.
In the words of one of my old professors, “I say all this to say” that Gen Y PR Prescriptions was created to highlight some of the best, the worst, the most interesting and just plain innovative. I encourage you all to join me in my quest and engage in the discussion! With that said, the work week starts in 5 hours, so I’m off to sleep.
* I threw this in here because I think Gen Y members bring special, interesting perspectives to what we do. We’re not always right. Our ideas aren’t always better, but we’re definitely worth listening to.
